How to Make a Bequest

A bequest is one of the simplest ways to remember the people and organizations you care about most.

Getting Started

Leave your legacy by making a gift in your will or living trust to friends, family and charitable organizations. If you plan to make a charitable gift by will, please think it through carefully. Then, meet with your attorney to discuss and update your will. Tell him or her exactly what you want to do. Be as clear as possible in describing what you want given to whom.

Please Let Us Know

We hope you'll tell us when you have named Saint Luke's Foundation in your will. We would very much like the opportunity to thank you for your generosity and recognize you as a member of our Heritage Society.

Sample Bequest Language

I give, devise and bequeath to Saint Luke's Foundation Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri, a Missouri not-for-profit corporation, ("____ percent of my estate" or "the sum of ____" or "the residue of my estate").

For Your Attorney

All securities or other legal documents should be made payable or transferable to:

Saint Luke's Foundation Inc.
Box 119000
Kansas City, MO 64171-9000

If you prefer to remain anonymous, your gift will be kept completely confidential. But at the same time, recognition of your gift can encourage others to do the same. Whatever the case, we will honor your wishes.

If you would like to specify a medical program in your bequest or if you have other special requests, we invite you to contact Michael VanDerhoef, Foundation CEO/Senior Vice President of Development, at mvanderhoef@saint-lukes.org or (816) 932-2941 for assistance and appropriate wording.

We can help you structure your gift so that it achieves your philanthropic goals and provides for your family – while also avoiding unnecessary taxes.
