What Friends Are For

The generosity of friends in the community makes a difference in the everyday lives of Saint Luke's South's patients

Saint Luke's South Hospital has offered its community a full continuum of health and educational services for more than 10 years. But it's the community itself, through its generous support, that has allowed the hospital to make several notable additions in recent years:

  • The Goppert Center for Breast Care uses digital mammography screening and an interdisciplinary team specializing in the latest imaging, surgical, and diagnostic techniques.
  • Interventional heart services offer a seamless extension of the advanced cardiac care at the world-renowned Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute.
  • Saint Luke's South's innovative Hip and Knee Center features a streamlined program unique to the Kansas City area, which results in patients with earlier mobility, greater range of motion in a shorter amount of time, shorter hospital stays, and a quicker return to everyday activities.

Mutual Attraction

Just as serving its community is a key part of Saint Luke's South's mission, the community's generosity is key to the programs and services the hospital offers:

  • Private gifts help support continuing education for nurses and staff, ensuring they are equipped with the latest medical knowledge in their fields.
  • Proceeds from the annual Books and Boutiques event, featuring best-selling authors and boutique shopping, benefit a different program each year. Proceeds have purchased equipment for Saint Luke's South's neonatal intensive care unit, supported breast cancer services, and helped fund women's heart health programs.

"I'm back to enjoying physical activities instead of bearing them."

Dick Pierce, recipient of two knee replacements at Saint Luke's South's Hip and Knee Center
